About Me
I became interested in photography as a twelve
year old when I came second in a school photography
competition. I got the bug and managed to blag a 35mm
rangefinder (I can't remember
the type)
off my parents. A passion for motorcycles surfaced during my teens and
when a
couple of mates began racing fairly successfully at club level, the
two
hobbies fused. Although I like all forms of motorsport, Superbikes
and Motocross are particular favourites.
My first SLR was a Zenit E, heavy and bulky but a great camera to learn
on. This was followed by various Olympus OM series cameras. I initially
resisted the change to digital photography but eventually
"converted"
and adopted the Canon EOS system with a MacBook Pro laptop. My only
regret was selling my old Olympus OM2n - why did I do it?
Although I shoot mainly for fun, images have been published in
Autosport, Carweek and Redline
magazines and in the local press.
I follow many photographers but within motorsport I have always
admired Jeff
Bloxhams work. I also like documentary photography and I find the most
memorable and powerful images are those by Sebastião
Salgado of the Serra Pelada gold mine.
I've recently got an
Android phone, and this has a very capable camera. I'm currently
experimenting to see what I can achieve with it. Of course action shots
are out for obvious reasons but for close ups and abstract work theres
a lot of potential. Its easy to become obsessed with equipment
and specifications but as often
stated a camera is merely a device for capturing the moment.
